Chicken - From The Horse's Mouth

together with
~ Both found at Digital Design Den ! ~

The snow is beginning to melt around our place.  Thank God!  I think I can - actually - get my Putt-Putt down the driveway.

The Girls are not stupid.  Well - as long as they’re inside their coop.  They can see how bright the light is coming in through the windows.  They just know that sunshine is out there in full force.  And when that happens - they have nothin’ nice for me until I let ‘em outside.

The temps hit over 40*F yesterday.  So - I decided to go open the little door that lets them out into their yard.  Naturally - it was still piled up with snow.

And - they’ve never walked in snow.

Anytime I let them out into their little yard - they all come storming out like a bunch of Banshees!

And umm - “ Miss Thing “ in the photo above - was first.

I saw it from the house.  It was perfect Jim Stafford material for a song!

Her feet hit that snow and - instantly - she jerked into an exploding wad of feathers and bounced to the far corner of the yard!

Screeching came outta that wench - like she wanted to pull feathers outta her butt - while trying to float - in the air - without landing on that white stuff - ever again.

I was cryin’.  I thought I was gonna pee my pants.  I was laughing so hard my gut was killin’ me!

I went down to video her with my camera - later - after I composed myself.  She’d made it to the perch.

And she wasn’t comin’ down - without help.

She begged - and she pleaded - until I shut the camera off - stepped into the yard - and became her Heroine !

Nope.  The Girls do not like snow.  It’s just that simple.  But the best part of finding that out was…

I had 5 ( FIVE ) eggs - within 30 minutes!

HAHAHAHAHA!

Going fer Egg-stremes

The fonts I used were Segoe Print and Kristen ITC.

I had to go out and shoot this photo last night.  I’ve been pretty excited about my egg counts - lately.  Believe it or not - it works!

I’m beginning to see 8 eggs out of 9 hens everyday!

One other factor that seems to have played into this - they found their way to show me that they prefer Scratch grains over the crumble.

Alright - so I’m being nice about it.  Okay - really nice about it.

Well - fine.

The wenches downright decided to go hormonal and refused to eat any of the crumble and kept raising absolute Hell anytime I walked inside the coop - until I used my friggin’ brains.

There.

Ya’ like me now!?

" It " is Still - Here

Okay - well - I cheated my way into some fun this morning!  I used a Quick-Pick page that Katie - aka “ Just So Scrappy “ designed and included in the entire Bundle package for her kit called " Snow Buddies " that I purchased at Digital Design Den.

And I’m glad I bought that entire bundle.  It’s got a BUNCH of really cool stuff!

All this snow we’ve received has been wonderful.  It hasn’t been such a shocking surprise to me.  Of course - I’m constantly keeping my eyes on weather.com - part of that bag of habits formed in the mindset of any obsessive gardener.  By the time winter comes - period - I’ve already been working toward stocking up the house - for these very same type of events.

Easy math - think worst case scenario - prepare for camping!

We’d gone to bed Sunday night knowing that the storm was coming.  We keep a television going in the bedroom.  Yeah - I know.  Can’t go to sleep without the television.

But ask my family what happens to me when I lay down in front of a television.  One more thing my husband and I have in common.

Anyway - both of us practically sat up in bed around 5:30am from hearing, “ Madisonville is reporting around 7 inches of snow this morning…. “

“ WHOA…. WHAT? “  Madisonville is only right down the road - about 5 minutes away from our house.  Reports had warned us to expect only about 4 inches at the very worst.

It was 7:30am before we managed to get dressed and succomb to going out to measure the depth of snow.

It was a matter of killing 2 birds with one stone.

We were pushed into a con job - getting Zucker to dive in and find a place to take care of his business.

We’d received 4.5 inches so far.  By the end of the day - we’d received another half-inch.  And it was still coming down in flurries.

I’ve ended up making a ditch from the house to the chicken coop.

Waking up this morning - it’s - still here.  Up until now we’ve been lucky enough to have the snow mostly melted away within a day or two.

Fortunately - we do have supplies.  I’m backed up with over 6 dozen eggs from the girls.  HA!

Oh - one more thing!  We collected 8 eggs from our 9 girls yesterday!  Happy Wenches!
